📦Open source or Escrow Protection?

Open Source vs Escrow Protected Scripts

At FiveStar Scripts, we provide both open source and escrow protected FiveM scripts. Each option has its own purpose and benefits, depending on what you want for your server.

🔓 What Is an Open Source Script?

An open source script gives you full access to the code. You can view, edit, refactor, or completely rebuild it to match your needs.

✅ Pros of Open Source

  • Full Code Control – You can change any part of the script.

  • Maximum Customization – Perfect if you want something truly unique.

  • Flexible Usage – In many cases, you can use it on multiple servers (check the product’s terms).

❌ Cons of Open Source

  • Easy to Leak – Code can be copied, shared, or resold without permission.

  • No Built-In Protection – Harder to prevent piracy.

  • Support Limitations – If you heavily modify the script, we may not be able to support your custom version.

🔐 What Is an Escrow Protected Script?

Escrow protected scripts are encrypted and licensed using the official FiveM Escrow system. They only run on servers that have a valid license.

✅ Pros of Escrow

  • Secure Code – The main code is encrypted and protected from leaks.

  • Stable Updates – We can safely update and improve the script over time.

  • Fair Licensing – One license per server keeps things clear and compliant.

❌ Cons of Escrow

  • Limited Editing – You cannot modify encrypted core files.

  • Single Server Usage – Additional servers require additional licenses.

  • Dependent on Developer – Big feature changes must be done on our side.

📝 Summary

  • Open Source → Maximum freedom & customization, but higher risk of leaks and piracy.

  • Escrow Protected → Secure and professionally maintained, but with limited access to core code.
